Northwest Arkansas is known for its beautiful and rugged landscapes.  It is considered by many Arkansans to be the most desirable area to live in the state.  In 1991, Money Magazine rated Fayetteville as the seventh "Best Place to Live" in the country (over 400 cities were ranked).  Rand McNally's 1990 "Retirement Places" rated Northwest Arkansas among the top five places to retire in America.  Outside magazine in 1992 described Fayetteville as one of the "next wave of dream towns" while the recently published book 50 Fabulous Places to Raise Your Family ranked Northwest Arkansas as the 5th leading area for quality of life.  The local economy is incredibly strong with an unemployment rate consistently at 3% or less.  Because of the desirability of this region, several major corporations have established their headquarters in this area.  Recent growth and interest in the region continues to be very strong.

The University of Arkansas' main campus is located in Fayetteville.  Northwest Arkansas, therefore, has available all of the advantages of life in a college town including many excellent restaurants, numerous cultural offerings and major university athletic events.  Because of our affiliation with the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences we may use the University of Arkansas facilities here in Fayetteville.  These facilities include the University's state-of-the-art athletic building with its indoor swimming pool, racquetball courts, basketball courts, plus much more.  Family members of residents and employees receive a 40% discount on undergraduate tuition at the University of Arkansas.

     Fayetteville's Walton Arts Center opened in April, 1992 as an example of one of the finest cultural centers of its kind in the region.  The Walton Arts Center provides a wealth of entertainment venues with a variety of concerts, plays and Broadway musicals.  Northwest Arkansas is also home to the University's new 20,000+ seat Bud Walton Sports Arena completed in the Fall of 1993.  This complex has been designed to be a premiere place to enjoy college basketball.

The Northwest Arkansas Family Medicine Residency Program is a short drive from many of the incredible natural wonders of the Ozark Mountains.  White water rivers, lakes for fishing and boating, backpacking trails, caves, and sheer mountain cliffs abound for your exploration and relaxation.  Fall in the Ozarks is a sight to see.

The Arts Center of the Ozarks in Springdale is the area's oldest family cultural center. There you can enjoy the visual arts, music, dance classes, theater arts instruction and other cultural events.  The War Eagle Arts & Crafts weekends in May and October bring tens of thousands of visitors from all over the United States.    The Harvey and Bernice Jones Center for Families in Springdale offers many activities for family enjoyment, all at no cost to the public.                        

The Victorian city of Eureka Springs is less than an hour's drive and features the Great Passion Play, the breathtaking Thorncrown Chapel and the Eureka Springs Botanical Gardens.  Historic hotels and wonderful Victorian bed and breakfast inns help you enjoy Eureka's unique shops, restaurants and other interesting sites and events.  For those with a passion for a wide variety of entertainment, Branson, Missouri is but a half day from Fayetteville.  Many other opportunities for fun exist in our region.  We invite you to come visit and see for yourself.
