RAY BREDFELDT, M.D.

Residency Director (1989-1998)

Dr. Raymond C. Bredfeldt served as the AHEC-NW Residency Director from 1989-1998, and was the second Program Director in the history of the residency.   In this capacity he was an Associate Professor in the UAMS College of Medicine's Department of Family and Preventive Medicine.  Dr. Bredfeldt completed his Family Medicine residency training at MacNeal Memorial Hospital in Berwyn, Illinois in 1981.  He received his Doctor of Medicine from Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C. in 1978.  His undergraduate degree was earned at the University of Illinois at Chicago in 1974.

From 1981-1984 Dr. Bredfeldt was in the Private Practice Option with the U.S. Public Health Service in Dowagiac, Michigan.  From 1984-1989 he was associated with the Southern Illinois University/Decatur Family Medicine Residency Program in Decatur, Illinois.  He was the Associate Director of that program, and prior to coming to AHEC NW he was the Program Director at SIU/Decatur for 2 years.

Dr. Bredfeldt is currently the Medical Director for Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Northwest Arkansas Region, a position he has held since January 1999.
