LEE PARKER, M.D. AHEC Director (1975-1996) Dr. Lee Parker was the first Director of the AHEC-NW Regional Medical Program. He and his wife Beverly have four children: Libby, Susan, Steven and Lynn. His former practices include: from 1957-59 in Dermott, AR; from 1959-1967 in McGehee, AR; and in 1967 he moved to Fayetteville, AR. Dr. Parker delivered between 750-1000 babies including one resident at this program. Dr. Parker's hobbies include gardening, travel, fishing/hunting, golf, church. Dr. Parker was instrumental in starting the AHEC-NW program in 1974 and retired from the AHEC-NW Director's position in 1996. Dr. Parker was also instrumental in starting the Radiologic Technology, Medical Technology, Nursing and Pharmacology programs at AHEC-NW. In his career Dr. Parker has established several medical student and other health professional scholarships. Other responsibilities and honors include the following: Chief of Staff, St. Mary's Hospital, Dermott, Arkansas, early 1960s 1963-Distinguished Service Award from McGehee, Arkansas Jaycees Councilor, Arkansas Medical Society, District 4, 1965-67 Chief of Staff, McGehee Desha Hospital, McGehee, Arkansas 1965-67 Chief of Staff at WRMC-1980; Fayetteville City Hospital-1975. President of the Arkansas Academy of Family Physicians from 1982-83. Member: UAMS Founder's Society and Legacy Society 1992-Distinguished Service Award from UAMS. 1993-94 - Arkansas Family Doctor of the Year. 1999 - Eagle Award from WRMC Foundation. Visiting Professor at the Kiohsiung Medical College in Taiwan from January-March, 1986. Hobbies: gardening, travel, fishing/hunting, golf, church. |
